1) Language Pink Material Guidelines

Guidelines for Pink Material

Thank you for taking the time out to look at my material. I have tried to create something that will be a timesaver to teachers and parents. All you need to do is purchase the color card and paper you would like to use. Print out the material and cut it out on the lines. Laminating them is always an option for the materials to last longer.

I have found that the series of readers, Primary Phonics from EPS (http://eps.schoolspecialty.com ) have worked well following the Montessori Language Material. Unfortunately, after Set 1 the Blue Material does not follow and here I have tried to write some of my own books and then continue on using the Primary Phonics readers for the Green Material and later stage Blue Material.

The child starts building 3 letter words with objects.

Here are some examples of objects that can be used for 3 letter words.

They are ant, cat, pan, bat, fan, hen, jet, pen, ten, red, zip, lid, tin, ink, pot, mop, box, log, top, dog, rod, tub, cup, mug, jug, bud, hut, nut, and bug.

For Primary Phonics Set 1 and 1A words ending in double consonant need to be taught as in egg, mitt etc. I have included these but I personally teach them as the Blue Series. Please feel free to print them as you like. Included are 8 picture and word cards plus 4 lists of words.

2. Pink Matching Cards

Once the child has mastered building words from objects they are introduced to pictures.

Included are 60 picture cards which are needed to be printed out in color and cardstock. The corresponding words can be printed black and white and again on cardstock. The cards are made so that they can fit in the clear plastic boxes (2 ½ inches by 7/8 inch) from Montessori Services (http://www.montessoriservices.com).

3. Pink Cards and Envelopes

The following are cards with pictures attached and loose words to match. Behind the card you can attach an envelope to store the words.

Included are 6 cards that need to be printed in color and on cardstock. The matching words and check list can be printed black and white and again on cardstock. You will need 6 envelopes to attach to the cards.

4. Mystery Box

These are words that are folded in 4 and placed in a box.

Included are 40 words that can be printed in black and on paper.

5. Pink Word Lists

Included are 30 helper lists that can be printed in black and on cardstock.

Included are 30 Rhyming Lists which need to be printed in color on cardstock. On the backs I place a dot for my own reference.

Included are 15 lists of the same vowel sound. These need to be color copied onto cardstock.

Included are 5 lists with different vowel sounding words. These need to be color copied onto cardstock.

6. Basic Sight Words

The very basic sight words are taught first and ones that are needed to read the phrases and sentences. 11 words are included and need to be printed in black on white cardstock or a neutral color.

To teach sight words here are some examples I have used other than the regular Three Period Lesson.

Make Bingo Boards and read out the sight words to the children and they match the correct one.

Copy a duplicate set of sight words in a different color card and the children can play a memory game with them.

7. Pink Phrases

Included are 15 phrases that need to be color copied onto cardstock.

8. Pink Sentences

This includes 15 sentences that need to be color copied onto cardstock.

9. Blue words ending in double ending consonants

These were mentioned earlier and they include 8 matching picture and word cards plus 4 word lists. They need to be color copied on cardstock in either pink or blue.

10. Sight Words for Set 1 and 1A of the Primary Phonics Readers

This includes 18 words and they can be printed in black on white cardstock.

11. Singular and Plural

This concept needs to be introduced to the child before reading Set 1 and 1A. These words are nouns and therefore need to be made on black cardstock. This is an example of the objects and words I have used.

12. Primary Phonics Readers Set 1 and Set 1A (red in color)

After completing this work the child could be ready for readers. I combine Set 1 and 1A as I find some are easier than others. However, if you decide to purchase and work with the workbooks that go with the readers, I would keep them in the manufacturing order.

My order is as follows:

1..    Mac and Tab (Set1 book1)

2.    The Cab  (Set1A book1)

3.    Kim and Wag (Set1A book2)

4.    Al  (Set1 book3)

5.    The Van and the Hot Rod (1A book3)

6.    Fun in the Mud (Set1A book4)

7.    Hal and Nip  (Set 1A book5)

8.    The Tin Man (Set1 book2)

9.    Del (Set1A book9)

10. The Wet Pup  (Set1A book7)

11. The Jet (Set1 book5)

12. Gum on a Cat (Set1A book10)

13. Meg  (Set1 book8)

14. Tim  (Set1 book4)

15. Ted  (Set1 book9)

16. Ed  (Set1 book7)

17. Cop Cat (Set1A book6)

18. The Cod and the Fat Cat  (Set1A book8)

19. The Wig  (Set1 book10)
  20. Ben Bug (Set1 book6)

Please bear in mind that although a child might have read all these books it does not always mean that they are ready to move on to the next section. Feel free to add more readers to this list if the child needs them. Remember to follow the child.
